I was in Jammu and Kashmir for 4 days roaming in and around Jammu mostly trying to document the heroes of the Kargil war martyrs as well as serving. Serving forget coz the proces is lengthier and would take a permission from the Defence ministry’s cell for clearing the interviews.
So a hop and jump trip to Jammu, RS Pura and Akhnoor was both tearful and pride making. The families I initially thought would be sad sorrowful and weep as soon as they are reminded of their loved ones that martyred in the war, but I was wrong and I am proud that I was wrong.
My first trip was to the AAJ TAk reporter who gave me some tips in handling the families and interviews Mr Ashwini. After that brief conversation on the telephone I hired a Camera person and Cab and started towards RS Pura for PVC Subedar Major Bana Singh famously called the siachen man. Before I start off with his interview I googled a little bit and found some awe strucking things about our govt’s lack of respect for the heroes. A report suggested that the J&K govt gives PVC (Param Veer Chakra) awardees Rs.166/- only. Shame I felt on myself for the man who saved our pride and put the country on its feet back by conquering the Quaid post (now renamed Bana post) this peanuts and insult is wonderingly insulting.
And the J&K govt i not the only one there are several others who would pay less than that and some would pay nothing. to be contd………..
